transition

I came out as trans nonbinary in early 2021, and had gender affirming top surgery in late 2022.

It was completely life changing, and has opened up a whole new world of love, opportunity, and excitement.

If you’re thinking about getting top surgery and would like to speak to someone who has experienced it, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

  • In 2021, I worked with photographer Aimée Sullivan on a photo series of my pre-surgery chest. We wanted to capture the absurdity and pain of how it felt for me to exist with a body I didn’t fit.

These photos will accompany a second series — coming soon — where we examine the euphoria and comfort of my chest as it is now.

  • Video Journalists Baz MacDonald and Anna Harcourt and I collaborated on a short documentary for Re: News about my top surgery.

You can find the documentary below, along with Baz’s article on how the public health system in Aotearoa is failing trans people.

Baz MacDonald was the winner of the 2023 Video Journalist of the Year Award at the Voyager Awards.
